Match the lamp assembly and the lighting system

Exterior lights can be sold as a complete assembly, housing, lens, or kit, with or without bulbs and control modules. Factory halogen, HID, LED, adaptive, and appearance-package systems are not automatically interchangeable.

Lighting details to verify

  • Location and side: front or rear, inner or outer, and driver or passenger side.
  • Technology: confirm halogen, HID, LED, projector, reflector, and adaptive functions.
  • Included components: identify bulbs, ballasts, modules, sockets, wiring, seals, and mounting hardware.
  • Legal configuration: use a lamp intended for the vehicle and market, and aim adjustable lamps after installation.

Inspect connectors and mounting points before final assembly. Water entry may involve a damaged housing, seal, vent, or installation surface, so correct the source rather than placing a new lamp into the same condition.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace one headlight or tail light assembly?

Yes, when one assembly is damaged and the replacement matches the vehicle and lighting system. Differences in age, lens clarity, bulb color, or finish may remain visible, so compare both sides when appearance is important.

Do replacement light assemblies include bulbs?

Some do and some do not. A listing may include only the housing, while another includes bulbs, sockets, ballast, or an LED module. Check the included-components section and determine whether original electronics must be transferred.

Why do lamps that look alike have different fitment?

Mounting tabs, connector pinouts, bulb types, trim packages, production dates, and LED or HID equipment can differ behind a similar lens shape. Use the full vehicle and equipment notes to select the assembly.
